Resumo Esse estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a relação entre a qualidade da informação contábil e as características organizacionais das entidades do Terceiro Setor. Quanto ao delineamento metodológico, caracteriza-se como descritivo, documental e com abordagem quantitativa. O universo de estudo é composto pelas organizações do Terceiro Setor formalmente constituídas no cenário brasileiro. Como população-alvo definiu-se as organizações com qualificação de OSCIPS e UPF, que no momento da realização do estudo, totalizavam 18.553. Trabalhou-se com uma amostra probabilística de 392 entidades. Os resultados apontam uma predominância de instituições constituídas sob a forma legal de associação. Quanto ao tamanho, as fundações apresentam-se maiores. No que tange à qualidade da informação contábil, identificou-se um baixo índice de qualidade da informação reportada se comparada ao Segundo Setor. Por fim, os resultados apontaram que as características organizacionais de tamanho, tempo de constituição e qualificação como OSCIP possuem influência significativa e positiva sobre a qualidade da informação contábil das entidades analisadas. Conclui-se que as organizações sem fins lucrativos e órgãos regulamentadores precisam evoluir no processo de reporte da informação contábil, bem como na conscientização da importância desses relatórios para o processo de tomada de decisão e de prestação de contas públicas.

Abstract This study intends to evaluate the relationship between the quality in accounting information and the organizational characteristics of Third Sector entities. The methodology is designed to follow a descriptive, documental and quantitative approach. The universe of the study is composed of Third Sector organizations, formally constituted in the Brazilian scenario. The target population has included organizations with OSCIP and UPF specifications. The 18,553 entities, which existed during the study, were investigated. The research used a probabilistic sample of 392 entities. The results indicate a predominance of the institutions established under the legal form of association. As for the size, the foundations are the larger ones. Regarding the quality of accounting information, we have identified a lower reported information quality index, when compared to the second sector. Finally, the results showed that the organizational characteristics of size, creation time and qualification as OSCIP have significant and positive influence on the quality of accounting information of the entities that we analyzed. This led to the conclusion that the non-profit organizations and regulatory organs need to make improvements regarding the accounting information reporting process, as well as the awareness of the importance of these reports for the decision-making process and public accountability. This study contributes to the discussion about the characteristics of the third sector organizations that relate with the quality of the accounting information reported by these institutions in the Brazilian scenario. It is the first study that analyzed this relationship in Brazil.

As Florestas de Terras Baixas constituem um dos ecossistemas mais perturbados e frágeis no bioma Mata Atlântica, mas ainda pouco se sabe sobre sua trajetória sucessional e resiliência. Foram avaliadas alterações na composição de espécies e a estrutura florestal do dossel e sub-bosque ao longo de um gradiente sucessional (floresta jovem-21 anos, floresta imatura-34 anos, floresta madura-59 anos) com o objetivo de verificar as mudanças na composição de espécies e a trajetória sucessional de diferentes estratos destas florestas secundárias. Uma parcela de 0,1 ha (dez sub-parcelas de 10x10 m) foi estabelecida em cada floresta, amostrando-se árvores e arbustos com um diâmetro è altura do peito (DAP) ≥ 4,8 cm (dossel) e para indivíduos com altura > 1 m e DAP < 4,8 cm (sub-bosque). Um total de 3.619 indivíduos de 82 espécies de plantas foram amostrados. O gradiente sucessional foi marcado por um aumento unidirecional na riqueza de espécies com o tempo, e um padrão bidirecional de mudanças de densidade (aumentando da floresta jovem para a imatura e diminuindo da imatura para a madura). As assembléias de plantas eram distintas nas três florestas e nos dois estratos; espécies indicadoras foram pouco compartilhadas entre as florestas. Portanto, cada estádio da cronosequência e cada estrato representam uma comunidade única de plantas. Nossos resultados sugerem pouca previsibilidade das assembleias de plantas destas florestas secundárias, mas uma recuperação relativamente rápida da estrutura da floresta.

The Lowland Forest is one of the most disturbed and fragile ecosystems in the Atlantic Forest biome, yet little is known regarding its successional trajectory and resilience. We evaluated changes in species assemblages and forest structure of the canopy and understory along a successional gradient (young 21-yrs old forest, immature 34-yrs old forest and late successional 59-yrs old forest) aiming to assess changes in species composition and successional trajectory of different strata of secondary forests. A 0.1 ha plot (ten 10x10 m sub-plots) from each forest stand was surveyed for trees and shrubs with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 4.8 cm (canopy) and for individuals with heights ≥ 1 m and DBH < 4.8 cm (understory). A total of 3,619 individuals from 82 plant species were sampled. The successional gradient was marked by a unidirectional increase in species richness and a bidirectional pattern of density changes (increasing from young to immature forest and decreasing from immature to late successional forest). Community assemblages were distinct in the three forests and two strata; indicator species were only weakly shared among stands. Thus, each successional forest and stratum was observed to be a unique plant community. Our results suggest slight predictability of community assemblages in secondary forests, but a relatively fast recovery of forest structure.

Tsallis' non-extensive entropy is used as a regularization operator. The parameter ''q'' (non-extensivity parameter) has a central role in the Tsallis' thermostatiscs formalism. Here, several values of q are investigated in inverse problems, using q < 1 and q > 1. Two standard regularization techniques are recovered for special q-values: (i) q = 2 is the well known Tikhonov regularization; (ii) q = 1 is the standard Boltzmann-Gibbs-Shannon formulation for entropy. The regularization feature is illustrated in an inverse test problem: the estimation of initial condition in heat conduction problem. Two methods are studied for determining the regularization parameter, the maximum curvature for the L-curve, and the Morozov's discrepancy principle. The new regularization of higher order is applied to the retrieval of the atmospheric vertical profile from satellite data.

Propõe-se, com o presente trabalho, avaliar uma metodologia para identificação de pixels contaminados por precipitação e/ou espalhamento utilizando-se dados dos canais do Advanced Microwave Sensor Unit (AMSU). A aplicação de metodologias desse tipo é útil para a inferência de perfis verticais de temperatura e umidade no Brasil, em situações de céu coberto. A validação dos resultados foi feita com base em um estudo de caso, em que se aplicou uma análise subjetiva, tomando-se como modelo a comparação com imagens das bandas infravermelho, visível e microondas. Os resultados mostraram excelente concordância entre os topos de nuvens com temperaturas de brilho baixas, afetadas pelo efeito de espalhamento devido à presença de chuva e gelo, e as áreas identificadas pelo algoritmo como sendo contaminadas por este efeito. O algoritmo conseguiu identificar adequadamente os locais sob influência de precipitação e/ou espalhamento.

This work presents a methodology to identify precipitation and/or scattering pixels in the Advanced Microwave Sensor Unit (AMSU) channels. This procedure is useful for applications in atmospheric temperature and moisture retrievals over Brazil under cloudy sky conditions. A subjective analysis based on a case study involving comparisons with infrared, visible and microwave images was applied for validation purpose. The results show an excellent relationship of cloud tops with low brightness temperature affected by scattering due to water drops and ice and the areas identified by the algorithm as being influenced by precipitation and/or scattering effect.

This paper describes an innovative technique, the gradient pattern analysis (GPA), for analysing spatially extended dynamics. The measures obtained from GPA are based on the spatio-temporal correlations between large and small amplitude fluctuations of the structure represented as a dynamical gradient pattern. By means of four gradient moments it is possible to quantify the relative fluctuations and scaling coherence at a dynamical numerical lattice and this is a set of proper measures of the pattern complexity and equilibrium. The GPA technique is applied for the first time in 3D-simulated molecular chains with the objective of characterizing small symmetry breaking, amplitude and phase disorder due to spatio-temporal fluctuations driven by the spatially extended dynamics of a relaxation regime.
